Engine 54

Engine #54 is a 1948 70 ton General Electric locomotive that was purchased from the Belfast and Moosehead Railroad in Unity

Our vintage 1948 work engine rides the rails.
The Downeast Scenic Rail 1948 diesel engine, newly restored and shown at the 2009 Open House at Washington Junction.
  • Volunteers Needed for 2011 Season

    Our 2011 season will start Saturday May 28th 2011 of the Memorial Day Weekend, and continue weekends and holidays through the weekend after Columbus Day.

    Volunteers are needed in many areas. We need Conductors, Brakemen, and Car Attendants for train service crews. We also need volunteers to assist in maintenance of the way track crews, and individuals to help continue the restoration of passenger cars.

  • Work Schedule for Downeast Scenic Railroad Volunteers

  • ALERT: Ellsworth and Hancock Rail Crossings Go Live

    The Downeast Scenic Railroad announces that effective Saturday June 26, 2010 at 12:01p.m. EDST, the several railroad grade crossings in the Town of Hancock and the City of Ellsworth shall change status from exempt-inactive to fully active with no exemptions. Please read the release for more information.
